DEC 2011 WEB-CIRCULAR - Bulk Cargo Liquefaction: Nickel Ore & Iron Ore Shipments
Nickel Ore and Iron Ore shipments continue to be a grave safety concern for bulk carriers of all sizes. The current low freight rates for bulk carriers, combined with other commercial considerations, can put pressure on Ship Owners and Masters to accept cargoes unsuitable for transport and, in effect, expose themselves to huge liabilities.

The Paris MoU New Inspection Regime
The Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) introduced the New Inspection Regime (NIR) for port state control inspections from 1st January 2011. It replaces the existing Port State Control System (PSC). The NIR is designed to further tighten its net in identifying sub standard ships, which has already resulted in four ships being banned from the PMoU region as reported by Trade Winds.
